Minimalist Fashion in my Future

It wasn’t easy but I finally managed to tackle my closet. The weather has been so whacky here lately. When it cooled off for a few days last week I felt inspired to go through my fall & winter wardrobe. I immediately pulled out a lot of things and took them to a local consignment shop where I will earn 40% of what they sell it for. I honestly think I make more money consigning then trying to sell them outright on my own.

A few days later I did a second closet sweep and took another load to the consignment store. I also sold three beautiful pairs of boots on eBay. I will write a future blog post about my eBay hustle. I was feeling really good about my dwindling possessions. There is something oddly freeing about getting rid of things. So I took another look and I have compiled a small amount of additional things to take. I feel like I still have quite a bit of stuff but I just can’t bring myself to part with much more. I even downsized my jeans…. I could slightly lean towards being a jeans hoarder.  I had my “nice” ones, then my not as expensive but still decent looking pairs followed by my I can wear these and if I ruin them it’s okay because they weren’t my good ones.

I realized holding onto all these different categories was just silly. What’s the worst thing that can happen? A “good” pair gets ruined and needs to be replaced…. Seriously, why hold on to all this stuff for the off chance that scenario will play out???  I’m trying to get to the mindset of less is more with my clothing. I don’t need 10 pairs of jeans to wear 3 pairs regularly while the other pairs just sit on a shelf in my closet. I’m really into the idea of  buying quality items and making them last as long as possible. I grew up thinking quantity over quality was essential but I have learned a lesson along the way that this mindset is not the best idea in the end. It took me buying more expensive jeans a few years ago (that are still my go-to pairs) to realized that their quality is so much better that in the end I will spend less since I will not need to replace them as often.

A few weeks ago, I spent a great deal of time reading about building a capsule wardrobe, which is my ultimate future goal but for now it is baby steps for me.? During my research I discovered an awesome blog with a lot of great tips and advice on minimalist fashion: Her blog is a great place to start if you are curious about it. I love the idea of only having a few things to choose from. I am notorious for putting on five different outfits before I leave to decide what I picked first was totally fine.

The funny thing is Mr. DailyGrindFree likes jeans, t-shirts and sneakers. However, I have a love affair with boots and flowing wraps and sweaters. This closet downsize was a big step for me towards my future goal of minimalism fashion and I can’t wait to see how it goes. It certainly will save me some time in the mornings. I will keep you guys posted on my progress.?
